The sanctity of marriage is gone

Somewhere between Kim Kardashian's 72 day marriage and the media's sensationalized depiction of weddings, we as a society have forgotten the founding principles of marriage. No longer is a marriage a lifelong vow between two people who love each other. It has been reduced to a temporary ploy for media attention.

TV shows like Bridezillas and movies such as Revenge of the Bridesmades only show the glamorous wedding planning aspect of the marriage, but no one wants to discuss what happens after you've jumped the broom. When you exchange vows you are making a promise before God to stay with this person until death do you part. However, with divorce rates on the rise, those words don't seem to carry much weight in this day and time.

Don't even get me started on people who aren't married setting their Facebook relationship status to married when they aren't actually married. It's blasphemy!

What do you think? Has society lost the sanctity of marriage?
